ModuTile manufactures two types of edges for the loop-to-peg interlocking floor tiles. We call them “Ramp Edges with Loops” and “Ramp Edges NO Loops”. The names refer to the loops on the long side of the ramp edge. Because the tiles are modular in nature, you have the option to select either type of edge for your installation. There is no right or wrong decision. However, depending on how you start your installation and the type of room in which you are installing the interlocking floor tiles, you may want to consider selecting one vs. the other. Let me explain what we mean by that.

According to the US Department of Energy best practice, managing vapor and moisture on a basement is critical. Excluding an obvious water leak into the basement, water enters a basements through the concrete slab via a phenomenon called capillary action. Capillary action is the ability of a liquid to flow against gravity where liquid spontaneously rises in a narrow space. Because of this phenomenon, building assemblies should be allowed to dry to the inside of the room. Any material installation over the building walls or floors that prevents this is not recommended. Materials such as vinyl sheets, linoleum, rubber floors, Epoxy and other sealants do nothing to prevent the ground water from infiltrating the slab through capillary action.

What are garage floor tiles?

Garage floor tiles are tiles specifically designed for home garage flooring applications. They can withstand large rollover weight and will easily support large vehicles such as SUV’s, trucks or regular cars. There are many types of garage floor tiles on the market, but the best type is the interlocking garage floor tile made from a high-impact polymer material (high-impact plastic tiles). This type of tiles interlock using a loop-to-peg system. When properly designed, the locking mechanism will not come apart when a vehicle is driven on top of it. The characteristics of the components make the tiles resistant to grease, oils, gasoline and other chemicals commonly found in a garage. They are easy to clean using a sponge mop with water or a degreaser. And best of all, they are DIY (“do it yourself”), which allows you to save money on installation. When used for their intended purpose, these garage tiles can last 15 plus years.
