ModuTile manufactures two types of edges for the loop-to-peg interlocking floor tiles. We call them “Ramp Edges with Loops” and “Ramp Edges NO Loops”. The names refer to the loops on the long side of the ramp edge. Because the tiles are modular in nature, you have the option to select either type of edge for your installation. There is no right or wrong decision. However, depending on how you start your installation and the type of room in which you are installing the interlocking floor tiles, you may want to consider selecting one vs. the other. Let me explain what we mean by that.
If you are installing the interlocking floor in a garage, the answer depends on whether you begin the installation at the entrance of the garage or at the back.
Option 1: Installation Starting at the Entrance of Garage - For installations that begin at the garage entrance, the Ramp Edges with Loops will be needed. This is because the floor tiles should be oriented so that the loops are pointing toward the back of the garage and the opposite corner from where you are beginning. By orienting the tiles toward the back of the garage and toward the opposite corner from where you are beginning the installation, you assure yourself that you will need ramp edges with loops. The added benefit of aligning the tiles this way is an easier installation. Remember, two sides of the tiles have loops and the other two sides do not.
Option 2: Installation Starting at the Back of Garage - This option is not recommended unless your garage is a small one car garage. For installations that begin at a corner in the back of the garage, the floor tiles should be oriented with the loops pointing toward the garage entrance and the opposite corner from where you are beginning. Hence, you will need the Ramp Edges with NO Loops.
Option 3: Garage Floor Mat - If you will are creating a mat, you will need both types of ramp edges plus corners. As an example, consider that your garage floor mat will be 20 feet by 22 feet. In this example, you would need 20 + 22 = 42 of one type of ramp edge and an equal amount of the other type of edge. Of course, you will also need 4 ramp corners. Just remember that two adjacent sides of the garage floor mat will have loops and the other two sides will NOT have loops.
